ECAP II (EC-ASEAN Intellectual Property rights Cooperation Program) has awarded Vietnam EUR1.5mil to implement intellectual property copyright protection, providing libraries with computers, books and CDs.
On July 21 in Hanoi, ECAP II, in association with the Vietnam Intellectual Property Office, held a ceremony marking the commencement of a project to ensure intellectual property protection in Vietnam.
In its first stage, ECAP II will equip the library of the Vietnam Intellectual Property Office and the library of HCM City Center for Scientific and Informative Information with computers, Internet access, books and 1,000 CDs on intellectual property law.
ECAP II is sponsored by the European Commission and has a budget of EUR9mil. Under the program, the European Patent Office (EPO) and the Office of Harmonization for the Internal Market (OHIM) will work with intellectual property offices in Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam to protect copyrights on intellectual property and increase the public awareness of the issue. The program also facilitates the exchange of information between Europe and ASEAN countries.
Among the ASEAN countries, Vietnam receives the largest sponsorship of the program with funds for more than 50 activities.
