The Copyright Office of Vietnam (COV) delegation led by Acting Director General, Mr. Vu Ngoc Hoan, had a visit to Japan from 24-28th March 2014 following the invitation of the Japanese Copyright Office (JCO) in order to discuss the copyright and related rights issues as well as drafting the forthcoming Memorandum of Understanding on co-operation between COV and JCO in these fields.
During five days in Tokyo, the delegation had a working visits to JCO, which is under the Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs, the Tokyo Customs Office and the Intellectual Property High Court as well as some other Japanese Collective Management Organizations on copyright and related rights such as the Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers (JASRAC), the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ), the Center for Performers’ Rights Administration (CPRA), the Content Overseas Distribution Association (CODA), the Association of Copyright for Computer Software (ACCS) and the Copyright Research and Information Center (CRIC).
At the study visit, JCO pledged to support Vietnam in raising awareness of objects of copyright and related rights in Vietnam. In addition, JCO exchanged experiences on the implementation of copyright and related rights protection nationwide as well as sharing its experience on participating and implementing of the WIPO Treaties on copyright and related rights. Also in this occasion, the Director General of JCO, Mr. Fumio Sakka, handed over a translating text of an updated Copyright Law of Japan in Vietnamese language to Mr. Vu Ngoc Hoan as a valuable gift from JCO to COV.
All the experiences on protection of copyright and related rights from Japan is necessary and useful to Vietnam. JCO and organizations relating copyright in Japan, throughout the last years, have a cooperation and support Vietnam in the field of copyright and related rights protection, especially in the propagation and raising awareness for all subjects. This cooperation will certainly increasing consolidate and develope in the future.
